ADWEA is established as an authority of the Government having responsibility for the formulation, development and implementation of the Government’s policy in relation to the water and power industries. This includes the implementation of the privatisation process. ADWEA is responsible for the appointment of the management of ADWEC and TRANSCO and for the formulation of policy for these entities, but does not have day-to-day operational decision-making responsibilities.

CMS Generation Co. (“CMS Generation”), the independent power production business unit, accounts for 18% of CMS Energy’s pre-tax operating income and 11% of revenues. CMS Generation has 10,891MW in operation of which 8,499MW relate to international projects. CMS Generation is a 40% shareholder in the 720MW and 50MIGD Taweelah A2 project in Abu Dhabi that is now in commercial operation. The Taweelah A2 project was completed within budget and according to schedule.
International Power plc (“International Power”) is one of the world’s largest international independent power developers and is active in all phases of the power generation value chain, including development, construction and operation. International Power has interests in 11,200MW (net) of plant consisting of 8,850MW (net) in operation, 2,350MW (net) under construction and a number of projects at an advanced stage of development across the globe. In the year to March 2000, International Power had pro-forma profit before interest, tax and exceptional items of £191 million.
